Alanda is a women-owned, purpose-driven organisation helping build a healthier and more equitable world through a focus on evidence and effective training
We keep our 3E’s framework in mind:
Evidence based. We look at what others have done and what has worked.
Evidence generating. We create systems to generate evidence on whether a project works and how to improve it.
Evidence sharing. We share our findings with the world to contribute to the global knowledge repository
We focus on equity, always.
We look at interventions from all standpoints, particularly from those who have the greatest needs and the least resources.
We ensure that our work for partners and internal work has an equity lens. How can we make this available to those who could most benefit? Who are we not counting, not accessing? How do we bring them in?
We use human-centered design tools to create interventions that are based on user perspectives and needs.
We recognise that the people we want to help know what their needs and strengths are, and we don’t.
We’re not “the experts”, we’re good listeners and fast learners. We have something to learn from everyone.
We don’t make assumptions. We ask good questions.
We aim to recognise our own ingrained biases and prejudices. We think carefully about how we are portraying stories, communities and people to change detrimental narratives.
We keep a positive, solutions-oriented focus.
We focus on the helpers, on things that work. We believe there is a way forward and that progress is happening - the evidence is there.
We recognize that we need to keep an open, adventurous and creative outlook to find solutions.
We aim to showcase, amplify and learn from stories of people helping themselves and their communities.
We recognise that a large percentage of health is NOT about healthcare.
We look into the determinants of health when supporting interventions and programs.
We take a holistic approach to health, including mental and physical health and wellbeing.
We understand that ensuring health equity requires focusing on non-health determinants as well.
We believe diverse and inclusive teams and partnerships are what make us strong.
We strive to ensure our recruitment processes create opportunities for all, regardless of where they come from.
We make a conscious effort to invite a diversity of people into our team because we are better off for it.
